The partnership between Neftaly Charity and the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA) continues to grow in strength, reach, and impact. May 2030 was a month of significant implementation and community-level progress as we worked toward our shared goal of inclusive, youth-centered development. This report provides a summary of activities, outcomes, and lessons learned during the month.
2. Program Highlights – May 2030
a) Youth Development & Training
- 4,200 young people trained across South Africa, Namibia, and Eswatini.
- Key focus areas included:
- Life skills and work readiness
- Vocational training in construction, agriculture, and hospitality
- Introduction of Digital Pathways for Africa, a new DBSA-supported tech learning initiative
- Partnered with local TVET colleges to enhance curriculum delivery in rural communities.
b) Infrastructure Development
- DBSA funded the construction of three Neftaly Youth Empowerment Centres in Limpopo, Northern Cape, and Western Zambia.
- Each center features:
- Digital learning labs
- Co-working spaces for youth entrepreneurs
- Counseling and wellness rooms
- Upgraded water and sanitation facilities in 12 rural schools, reaching over 6,800 learners.
c) Enterprise Development & Support
- 310 emerging entrepreneurs received business development support, including:
- Micro-grants up to R25,000
- Access to e-commerce platforms
- Mentorship from industry leaders
- Special support programs for women-led cooperatives and green enterprises.
3. Impact & Monitoring
- Impact measurements from May show:
- 69% of youth participants reported increased employability.
- 58% of supported businesses generated profit within the first 60 days.
- 85% satisfaction rate from local communities involved in Neftaly infrastructure projects.
- Neftaly’s monitoring system, integrated with DBSA’s ESG framework, tracked social, economic, and environmental indicators.

- Implement trauma-informed training for facilitators working in high-risk youth communities.
